Building Hopes, Building Shelter:
The Journey Behind Susie's Angels
When Susie’s Angels first took on the challenge of acquiring the property that would become a sanctuary for families in need, it was in dire condition. The building had been abandoned for years, its walls crumbling, and its foundation was weakened. The interior was a maze of outdated fixtures, broken plumbing, and peeling paint. It was a place that had lost its purpose and potential.
But Susie's Angels saw what others couldn’t: the opportunity to create a space that could offer warmth, support, and a fresh start for families facing hardship. The vision was clear, but the road ahead would be anything but easy.
For two years, we poured our hearts into the building, gutting it from top to bottom. Every inch of the property was carefully renovated, from the foundation to the roof. The exterior was transformed into a welcoming and vibrant space that invites hope, while the interior became a safe and functional haven, equipped to serve the diverse needs of our residents.
Now, after countless hours of hard work, dedication, and love, the property is ready to fulfill its mission. But we still need your help to ensure its future. By paying off the remaining debt on the property, we can continue offering our crucial services without the financial burden holding us back. Your support will help us keep Susie’s Angels running smoothly, making a lasting impact on the lives of families who need it most.
Together, we can turn this space into a beacon of hope for many more families in need. Thank you for being part of our journey

From Humble Beginnings to Transformative Impact
Initially, Susie’s Angels focused on the DC area, bringing hope to families in shelters and hosting regular meals for the homeless. Over time, the vision grew. Now headquartered in Desoto, Texas, Susie’s Angels has expanded its reach, providing shelter, resources, and programs to empower women and children in need.
Through initiatives like the Home 4 the Winter campaign, Susie’s Angels is creating safe spaces where families can heal, grow, and rebuild. Barrows Villa, one of our key projects, provides stable housing and career development programs, offering families more than just a place to stay—it’s a fresh start.
The Spirit of Susie’s Angels
At its core, Susie’s Angels is about carrying forward a spirit of selflessness, compassion, and resilience. It’s about lifting up those who feel forgotten, amplifying the voices of the unheard, and creating pathways to brighter futures.
Carolyn Oglesby’s vision is rooted in her mother’s unwavering kindness and the belief that every act of service—big or small—has the power to change lives. Today, that vision drives everything we do at Susie’s Angels, empowering families, building communities, and providing hope where it’s needed most.
In 2005, Carolyn turned her promise into action by founding Susie’s Angels, named in honor of her mother. What started as adopting families during the holidays and feeding the homeless in shelters has blossomed into a mission that impacts lives on a much larger scale.
The Divine
Calling
Our vision is inspired by a higher purpose, rooted in the belief that every life is precious and deserving of love, care, and support. We are committed to extending a helping hand to the homeless—providing food, clothing, and shelter to restore dignity and offer hope.
Beyond meeting basic needs, we strive to create a safe haven where individuals can rebuild their lives and find stability. Through practical assistance, emotional support, and a strong sense of community, we aim to reignite hope and remind those we serve that their circumstances do not define their worth.
Together, as a unified community of compassionate individuals, we are transforming dreams into reality—rekindling hope and creating pathways to brighter futures for those in need.
